Nick The Nightfly musician and radio personality.He is the presenter of RMCs Monte Carlo Nights, Italy’s leading late-night cult radio show. Nick launched the show many years ago, he first began to specialise in quality music in 1988.
His interests include Jazz, world and Brazilian music, acid jazz. Today he presents Chill Out Lounge and Nu Jazz, his Radio Monte Carlo show always has an eye on the “Q” in the music , Quality of both the present and the past and in all styles.
Nick was born in Glasgow, Scotland, but he has called Italy home since 1982. His radio programme has featured guest appearances by Pat Metheny, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Andreas Vollenweider, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Brian Eno, Gino Vanelli, David Sylvain, Miriam Makeba, Caetano Veloso, Enya, Donald Fagen, Wayne Shorter, Pino Daniele, Deep Forest, Mark Knopfler, Seal, Annie Lennox , George Micheal
Nick received a prestigious “Telegatto” (the Italian equivalent of a Grammy award for radio) for “Best Voice of Italian Night Radio,” Nick has also worked in television, having presented “Jammin’,” a musical show on Italy’s Italia Uno station. He has also hosted a programme from the Heineken Jammin’ Festival in Imola for Sky
Nick has released 4 albums 2 solo projects with his 5tet and 3 with his Nick The Nightfly Orchestra. Nick and his 20-piece orchestra have also performed with Patti Austin,Dee Bridgewater the Yellow Jackets and many leading Italian musicians.
For Sony music he has produced 15 compilations, in addition to a special 6 CD box , “The Nightfly Box.” He also released a double CD of swing music for EMI, “Aperitivo con Swing,”
Nick has been artistic director for the past 15 years at the prestigious Blue Note Milan club since it’s opening in 2003 .
In addition to interviewing his guests on Monte Carlo Nights, Nick often likes sings with them live. He has performed with Til Bronner ,Angelique Kidjo, Giorgia, Carmen Consoli,, Dulce Pontes, the Solis String Quartet, Tommy Emmanuele, Incognito Trilok Gurtu, US3, Ludovico Einaudi, Sarah Jane Morris, Doctor 3 and last, but by no means least, Pat Metheny.
Nick is currently finishing a new CD of original compositions that will be released later this year , and a new CD of live music recorded at The Blue Note Milan with the orchestra in a tribute called “Swing With Sting”
